Input types



HTML defines several input types to let the user click, enter text or select among a group of options.
The following table summarizes the types of input possible.

Syntax: <input type="type-of-input">

Input-type Example Description
text Used to let the user input text
checkbox Allow overwrite? Used to select an option
radio apples oranges Used to select one option
among a set of options
password Same as text input, but
typed characters are not seen
hidden Used to send hidden fields
in the form to the server
submit Used in forms to send
form-data to the server
reset Resets the form so that it
is the way it was before
anything was typed in. Its usage
is somewhat discouraged
because user can accidently
click this button and lose all data.
button Button to allow clicking
and tigger an event
file File upload control
image A button with image.
